The start of the new football season has seen a number of players pay tribute to the late Diogo Jota, with many still reeling from the death of the Liverpool and Portugal forward. Among those who has now paid tribute is his ex-Reds teammate Luis Diaz, who now plays for Bayern Munich.

Diaz scored the second goal in the DFL Supercup game vs VFB Stuttgart after Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute, ensuring that Bayern started their season with a trophy win as they bid to defend their Bundesliga title.

But it was Diaz's celebration after the game that caught the attention of many, as it was a clear and obvious tribute to Jota.

After he scored, Diaz wheeled away in celebration before asking his teammates to wait for a bit before coming to him, and he sat in a cross-legged position while mimicking using a game console controller - a celebration commonly used by Jota in his playing days.

The move was lauded by fans on social media, many of whom have also struggled to come to terms with the sudden death of the Portuguese forward and his younger brother Andre Silva.

This was not the only major tribute to Jota either, as both Liverpool and Wolves - the club he played for before joining the Reds - paid touching tributes to him on the opening weekend of the Premier League.

Fans, Clubs Remember Diogo Jota

Wolves posted a touching video tribute to their former player, which included archival footage of him during his time at the club.

"Diogo left an everlasting impression on our club and our city, giving us memories to last a lifetime. Today, we came together to honour his life, and that of his brother Andre. We'll remember you when you walk in fields of gold," they said on social media.

Liverpool players and fans paid an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, on Friday at the first competitive match at Anfield since their death last month.

Ahead of kickoff in the 4-2 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League, Liverpool fans held up placards to spell out “DJ20” and “AS30” in two of the stands during a period of silence in honor of the Portuguese players, who were killed in a car crash in Spain.
