Kush Maini Faces Sanctions From FIA, Formula 2 After Scary Incident at Feature Race in Azerbaijan
After surviving a life-threatening crash during the Formula 2 Feature Race in Baku, Indian Driver Kush Maini, of Invicta Racing, has been penalized by the FIA. The race driver has been handed two post-race sanctions. Maini's car allegedly breached the F2 Technical regulations, which specify the failure to engage the start-up regimen at the Feature Race's beginning.
"The Stewards received a report from the Technical Delegate that Car 9’s data indicated that the driver did not engage the start set-up procedure for the start of the Feature Race, as required by the F2 2024 System User Manual.
"It constituted a breach of Article 1.6.1 of the FIA Formula 2 Technical Regulations and Article 10.15 of the F2 2024 System User Manual. Consequently, Maini has been disqualified from the Baku Feature Race classification," The FIA Formula 2 said in a statement.
After a thorough inspection of the stewards, it was determined that Car Nine failed to engage the start-up procedure at the beginning of the race, which led to his car stalling on the grid which caused the collision. The Invicta Racing drive was held fully responsible for the incident. Kush Maini was given a 10-second time penalty, but the sanction has been changed to a five-place grid penalty because he did not complete the Feature Race. Maini will serve out his sentence at his subsequent race.
