An Excited Fernando Alonso Reveals Range Of Emotions He Went Through During The Adrian Newey Saga

After months and months of speculations, Adrian Newey was finally announced as the newest member of the Aston Martin F1 team. Ever since Newey left Red Bull there were a lot of rumors regarding where he will go. Earlier it was stated that he will be moving to Ferrari but the tide changed later on as Lawrence Stroll was able to sway him to Aston Martin with a lucrative offer. One of the people who was most excited with Adrian Newey joining Aston Martin was 2-time World Champion Fernando Alonso. 

Fernando Alonso Shares Excitement 

Fernando Alonso recently shared the range of emotions he went through before and after Adrian Newey was signed by the British team. Alonso currently drives for Aston Martin and this could be his chance to get another World Championship under his belt.

“I was hoping Adrian would join when he decided to stop with his previous team. To start with, you dream that it can be a possibility. There were a couple of rumours that he was joining different teams and I was asking Lawrence, I was asking Martin Whitmarsh, I was asking various people in the team if we had contacted Adrian," said Alonso according to the Aston Martin website.

Alonso Contacted Newey Himself

“I even ended up contacting him myself. I have his phone number and texted him: ‘What a surprise. If you ever think you would like a new challenge, I would love to work with you one day.’ And I then found out that Adrian and Lawrence were in contact. Lawrence kept me up to date on negotiations. When Adrian decided to join, I was extremely happy but also extremely proud – proud that he wanted to work with us and that he believed in our project,"said an excited Fernando Alonso.

Newey will begin working with Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin from 2025 onwards.
