Helmut Marko Confirms Red Bull Are Looking At Young Driver To Replace Sergio Perez
Red Bull team advisor Helmut Marko has confirmed that Red Bull are looking at options to replace Sergio Perez with one driver in the running.
Sergio Perez over the entire 2024 Formula One season has been a disappointing sight. He has not been able to utilize the car that he was handed to it's full potential and thus is one of the biggest reasons why McLaren was able to break Red Bull's dominance over the Constructors Championship and overtake them. His teammate Max Verstappen currently lead the Drivers Championship standings but as for Sergio Perez he is stuck all the way down in 8th place. This has led to Red Bull to look at other options for their driver lineup next year.
Currently one young driver is the front running to become the next Red Bull driver.
Young Driver To Possibly Replace Sergio Perez
According to Helmut Marko, VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda is currently the frontrunner to become the next Red Bull driver if they decide to let go of Sergio Perez. Another driver in the mix is Liam Lawson. According to Marko, the two youngster have six races to prove themselves to the Red Bull team that they deserve to drive for them.
“Tsunoda is a candidate to drive alongside Max in 2025.
“The remaining races of this season will decide what our driver pairings will look like for next year.
“I can very well imagine that a junior driver will drive alongside Max.
“We decided to compare Lawson and Tsunoda. They have the same material, the same conditions and each now has six races to prove that he is the better one,” stated Helmut Marko while speaking to F1 Insider.
Marko further emphasised on the Red Bull policy of them giving their young drivers a chance.
Helmut Marko On Young Drivers Philosophy
“We started with the philosophy of giving young drivers a chance in Formula 1,” stated the Austrian.
“Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo are just three examples.
“The others are now following this philosophy.
“Mercedes is giving Kimi Antonelli a chance, Haas Oliver Bearman, Williams Franco Colapinto and it seems that, fortunately, Audi is now seriously considering the young Mick Schumacher,” said Helmut Marko.
