Four-legged Olympians settle in after Tokyo arrival for equestrian competition

The first Olympic equestrian competitors arrived earlier in the week at Tokyo's Haneda Airport.

Touching down from Belgium where they stayed in a special horse hotel, these were the first of the four-legged Olympians to arrive in Japan for the games.

They had to undergo a 60-day health surveillance period then a seven-day pre-export quarantine before leaving for Japan.

After being unloaded from special travelling crates, a convoy of 11 air-conditioned trucks from the Japanese Racing Association transported the horses to the Olympic stables at Baji Koen.

A record 50 countries will be competing in the equestrian events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

A total of 325 horses will be flown into Tokyo for both the Olympic and Paralympic competitions.
