The Malaysian Hockey Federation did not extend an invite to the Pakistan Hockey Federation for the Azlan Shah Cup which is to be played in November 2025 due to an ‘outstanding debt’. According to a PHF source, a member of Pakistan's hockey federation made some bad decisions which left the PHF in debt of the MHF.
"A former official of the PHF made some bad decisions during the last Azlan Shah Cup, which left the PHF in debt to the MHF," the PHF source said according to PTI.
Apart from Pakistan, Japan will also not be participating in the tournament due to some prior commitments.
Pakistan Hockey Federation's secretary Rana Mujahid however refused the claims that Pakistan Hockey Federation was in debt of the Malaysian Hockey Federation as he stated that one should not believe in rumours. He also stated that nothing has been relayed from Malaysian Hockey Federation regarding the same.
Pakistan displayed an impressive performance in the 2024 edition of the Azlan Shah Cup as they had a campaign which included three wins and two draws. Pakistan had made it into the final of the prestigious tournament where they had lost to Japan.
The PHF will be disappointed with the decision and the acts of the PHF member after not being invited to the Azlan Shah Cup following 2024's performance.
Nations such as Belgium, India, Germany, Malaysia, Ireland and Canada will be travelling to Malaysia in November for the tournament as they will try and win the prestigious tournament.
