India Joins Race For 2030 Commonwealth Games, Submits Bid To Renew Push For 2036 Olympics

India has reportedly submitted a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

India has joined the race to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, PTI has reported. An expression of Interest to host the Commonwealth Games has reportedly been submitted by the Indian Olympic Association

India Launch Bid For 2030 Commonwealth Games

As per PTI, the last date to submit the  'Expression of Interest' is March 31 and the official submission has already been made a few days ago. A source told PTI, "Yes, it is true, India's bid has been submitted by the IOA and the state of Gujarat ."

Ahmedabad will be the designated host should India receive the green signal to host the 2030 CWG and the city is also the front-runner to be the 2036 Olympic host, provided that India is successful in their bid. Commonwealth Games Federation CEO Katie Sadleir had earlier opined that it would be the right step as the country pursued the ambition to be the host for the 2036 Olympics . India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010 while after 1982, the Asian Games also hasn't returned to the country.

Narendra Modi Endorsed India's Push For 2036 Olympics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had first raised the matter of the government's intention to host the 2036 Olympics during the 2023 IOC (International Olympic Committee) session in Mumbai. India is expected to face strong resistance from like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey and a decision is not expected to arrive before 2036. The Commonwealth Sport will now undergo a lengthy evaluation process to determine the host of 2030 Commonwealth Games.
