Ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Delhi Capitals (DC) strengthened their coaching lineup by adding former Australian cricketer to their franchise. Last year, the Capitals retained their core players including the likes of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel.

During  mega-auction of the cash-rich tournament, Delhi Capitals added strong names to the squad, aiming to clinch the silverware for the first time. Stars like KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Mitchell Starc, Faf du Plessis and others have joined the Delhi-based franchise ahead of the 2025 season.

Matthew Mott Roped In As DC's Assistant Coach

Delhi Capitals on Tuesday announced that they have roped in Matthew Mott as their Assistant Coach ahead of the 18th edition of the tournament. The former Aussie cricketer will be Hemang Badani's deputy, who was announced as the Head Coach of the franchise in October last year.

To announce the news, the franchise took to their X (formerly known as Twitter) handle and wrote, "A serial winner who's back for more. Welcome to Dilli, Matthew Mott." Apart from Badani, the coaching line up consist of Venugopal Rao, as the director of cricket and Munaf Patel who will take care of the bowling department.

Matthew Mott: A Seasoned Campaigner

Earlier in the 2008 and 2009 season of the IPL, Mott had been a apart of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an Assistant Coach. During his tenure with the franchise, KKR finished at the sixth spot in 2008 and in the 2009 season, they finished in the eighth place.

Mott has also served as the white-ball coach of the England men's cricket team, a position he left in July last year, following which, former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Brendon McCullum took charge of the Three Lions. During Mott's time with the Three Lions, he won the Men's T20 World Cup in 2022.  In the cricket world, he is considered as a serial winner for his achievements with the both men's and women's team of England.

In 2020, the 51-year-old got his hands on the Women's T20 World Cup with the Heather Knight-led side. In the 2024 season of IPL, the Capitals failed to make a mark in the tournament. DC finished sixth in the IPL 2024 standings with 14 points after winning 7 out of 14 matches.
