Check Out The Excerpts From The Interview Below:
It's been amazing. He opened up as a 2 to 1 underdog over me and I was like, ‘OK,’ I told everyone set a bet on me because I'm going to smoke him. I just didn't think I was going to do it that way, I'm going to be honest. I mean 11 and one's a great record, He's knocking people out in like 10 seconds, He's a dangerous fighter and I'm always ready to fight like a crazy battle, but it's always nice to get get my opponent out of there without me being damaged so and to get the bonus, it's just the cherry on top.
I always train hard, you know, and you just get straight training partners who have similar styles and body type. I go with experts and he's most mostly a kickboxer. I just work with my team and we have a strategy for my coaches and we just implement the strategy work throughout it, throughout the camp. So you know what? He is undefeated in UFC 4-0 and they're all decisions: One TKO when he kicked the guy in the nuts and the referee called it a body knockout. I think he has 2 split decisions. He's, look, let's put it this way, he's going to be in a cage with a Pitbull and he's a poodle. All he can do is run around and it's only a matter of time until I get my teeth on him and shake him around.
You know what, I think after Gomez; I want to destroy Gomez and fight someone in the top 15. I understand, Look, William Gomis beat Joanderson Brito. Joanderson Brito beat Diego Lopez', who was fighting for the title. So in my eyes, and they both kind of like they all just kind of beat each other by decision. In my eyes, if I finish William Gomez, I'm deserving of someone in top 15 top ten. And I especially if I smash and finish William Gomez, I should just be deserving of an arena and I should be deserving of some of the top 15 top ten. And yeah, and I'm ready for. I'm ready for that, and I think I could be anyone out there.
I'm a really good boxer and so is he, except I can kick really well. I can strike really well and I have the power, the speed and also the durability, the chin to fight Ilia Topuria. I think me and him would have a great fight. I just think I would just edge him and you know, probably, finish him.
Well, Gilbert Melendez has fought for the title. You want to train under someone who's been there, done that legend. He's been like the elite XC champion? You know, he's been the Bellator champion, like he's he's won titles under the organizations, fought the who's who and he's been an analyst for ESPN. So, you know, he has the great mind to be a coach. Not every fighter can be a coach, but Gil can because he has that intelligence and that fight IQ that he has passed on to me and understanding. He commentates fighting, He's still in the game. And yeah, he's a huge mentor of mine as well as my coach and role model. So I'm very glad to have him. And yeah, it's been big because we're also part of scrap pack is Nate, Nick Diaz, Dave Terrell and Jake Shields, all who which helped create my my style.
Absolutely. I mean, Nate Diaz is known for incredible endurance, and I feel like that's one of those things that I got from training with him is learning how to box, jiu jitsu, and just have like this incredible endurance. And I can outlast guys if I need to. I can get people out like my last fight, I can get you out in a minute. I can knock you out one punch or I can break you down piece by piece for for three rounds if we have to. But I'm going to outlast you. No one's going to outwill me.
Art and fighting honestly were things when I grew up it was I was always different. I grew up in the Philippines, and I was different. I don't know if you guys noticed, but I'm also a part Indian, also my dad's part Indian. So yeah, cuz Hyder, like Hyderabad. My great, great, great grandpa was from there. Anyway, so I was mixed and then it got me into a lot of fights and because I tried to defend myself and my dad's a tough guy. So he wanted me to showed me how to make a fist and not to back down, but my dad was also an artist. My dad was also an artist. So I got what his talents got brought down to me. And when when I was having a hard time growing up, I would use the art because I had no one to talk to and stuff like that to kind of it was the answer to my madness. But also it allowed me to assimilate to the US, and I started drawing tattoos and drawing for people and everyone started becoming friends with me. And it made people not want to bully me and be nice to me and stuff like that.
So it was it was the answer to the madness and fighting was was what allowed me to take care of my sisters and my mom as well as myself and stand up to those bullies. So it was just those things, those two things that came naturally to me Mixed martial arts is the combination of athletics and as well as fighting and art. And that's why I love mixed martial arts so much.
