Paris Olympics 2024: The biggest sporting event of the year, the 33rd Summer Games are just around the corner and the entire world's eyes are fixated on Paris. The La Ville Lumière (City Of Lights) is the home to one of the world's Seven Wonder Eiffel Tower and now will be home to over 10000 athletes for the Summer Games. India alone is sending a contingency of over 117 athletes and will look to better their Tokyo Olympics record. There are multiple facets to the upcoming Summer Games and here's what makes the upcoming Olympics unique.

Surfing In The Outskirts

Paris is the main city, bestowed with the hosting rights of the Summer Games, but many other events will be competed across 16 other metropolitan cities of France. Surfing is one of the most unique events to take place in the Olympics. The venue is situated 15,000km (9,320 miles) away from Paris and will set a new record for the farthest-ever medal competition staged outside an Olympic city.

Symbol Of Paris, A Part Of Olympics

A temporary outdoor stadium has been built for the beach volleyball contest which is right next to the famous Eiffel Tower. The winning athletes will also be honoured with a piece of the iconic monument as the medals will have original iron from the Eiffel Tower.

Locals To Participate In Olympics

This will be the first time ever that the locals of any host country will experience the thrill of the games first-hand. The locals of Paris will be allowed to run on the same course of the Olympic marathon on the same day.

The Siene Reopens

In one of the major developments, the Siene river opens for the first time in 101 years for swimming. It had held few event during Paris' first Olympic back in the 1900s. Since 1923 the river was banned due to water-quality issues, the river was considered too toxic for most fishes let alone human beings. This time around it will host the marathon swimming event

Debut Of A New Olympic Sport

The Paris Olympics will feature an urban dance style, Breaking which has its roots in the hip-hop culture. It will feature two events for both men and women and will be held from August 9 to August 10.

Paris Olympics@100

The 33rd Summer Games marks its return to the City of Lights after 100 years. The first time Paris hosted the Olympics was in 1900 and then in 1924. This makes Paris the second city after London (1908, 1948, and 2012) to host the Summer Games three times.

The Green Games

Interestingly, the Paris Olympics 2024 will be the greenest games ever with no air conditioning in the athletes’ rooms. The quarters of the athletes' village have been reimagined and designed with a cooling system that draws water from underground.
