Russian athletes prepare for Tokyo 2020 in the far east

Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin says Russian teams will be preparing for the Olympics in the far east to recreate the conditions of Games this summer.

Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin says Russian teams will be preparing for the Olympics in the far east to recreate the conditions of Games this summer.

Speaking at the International Economic Forum, Matytsin said training centres will operate under strict rules in order to avoid contamination.

He added while the climate may be similar to what athletes experience in Tokyo, recreating the absence of fans is more difficult.

The Tokyo Olympics will begin in July after being postponed from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Only local fans will be able to watch inside the stadiums as spectactors from foreign countries are not permitted to attend.
