Novak Djokovic, the defending champion and top seed, is out of the French Open. A knee injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament before his quarter-final match against Casper Ruud. An MRI scan revealed a torn meniscus, according to tournament organizers. Novak Djokovic had been battling pain throughout the competition and needed anti-inflammatory drugs to finish his previous five-set marathon. He blamed the slippery court conditions for the injury.
“I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from #rolandgarros. I played with my heart and gave my all in yesterday’s match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation. I wish the best of luck to the players competing this week and sincerely thank the incredible fans for all of the love and continued support. See you soon. With love and gratitude, Nole,” Djokovic wrote in his post.
This withdrawal ends Novak Djokovic's chance to win a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. Now, both the top-seed players, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have been ruled out of the French Open race. Nadal was knocked out of the first round by Alexander Zverev.
