Ahmedabad: An emotional Virat Kohli, with teary red eyes, hugged wife Anushka Sharma after his team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), secured their maiden IPL title with a thrilling 6-run victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Punjab Kings was chasing 191 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi stadium in Gujarat's Motera in Ahmedabad.
Punjab made a cautious yet energetic start, putting more than 50 runs on the board without losing a wicket. They lost their second wicket at 72 runs when Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed while attempting a big shot. Though runs continued to flow for Punjab, wickets kept falling also, increasing the pressure on the tail-enders.
At one point, it seemed Punjab might pull off the chase, but a brilliant spell by Krunal Pandya completely dismantled their batting order. He secured crucial wickets, provided regular breakthroughs, and ensured Royal Challengers Bengaluru remained dominant.
With RCB securing the championship, a teary-eyed Virat Kohli—who has consistently credited his wife, Anushka Sharma, for her support—ran up to the stands, shared an emotional hug with her, and celebrated his team’s triumph.
In yet another memorable moment, Virat Kohli was seen trying to control his tears in the final over, moments before RCB's historic maiden IPL title victory.
The IPL 2025 final was like a final game as both the teams were fighting for their maiden title but at last it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru that won the game for them and their fans, after 18 years of wait.
Speaking on the historic victory, Virat Kohli said that this victory is as much for the fans as it's for them. Relieved and happy after RCB's IPL title victory, Kohli said that he's going to sleep like a baby.
