Apple's New iPad Has New Chip, More Memory But Lacks Important Feature
Even though the iPad has been updated with A16, the new chip does not support Apple Intelligence services. Here is why.

Apple expanded the list of Apple Intelligence-supported devices with the launch of the new iPad Air on Tuesday. It also announced a refreshed model of the entry-level iPad alongside, giving it a new chip and twice the storage. The new iPad is more powerful than previous generations, but it lacks an important feature that Apple is bullish about: Apple Intelligence.
Even though the iPad has been updated with A16, the new chip does not support Apple Intelligence services, and Apple thinks it is the right decision because the targeted customers would just be fine without those features. The new iPad starts at ₹34,900, which is an entry-level price point in Apple’s product portfolio, and the company thinks Apple Intelligence is far from finding takers in customers in that category.

iPad specifications
The latest iPad model is powered by the A16 chip, which debuted on the iPhone 14 series in 2022. Apple claims the new chip makes the iPad up to 30 per cent faster than the previous generation model that uses the A14 chip. “The A16 chip provides a jump in performance for everyday tasks and experiences in iPadOS, while still providing all-day battery life,” said Apple. Everything else, such as the 11-inch Liquid Retina display, a 12MP Center Stage front camera, and support for Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, remains the same as previous models.
