Apple has launched its own Research app that hosts health studies. Apple said US customers can enrol in these health studies -- namely the Apple Women's Health Study, the Apple Heart and Movement Study and the Apple Hearing Study. Apple said it collaborated with leading academic and research institutions for these studies. All three studies will be accessible in Apple's new research app.

Apple Research app available to download

Apple Research app is available to download from the App Store. At the time of this publication, the app is ranked at 68th position in the 'Health & Fitness' category.

"Today marks an important moment as we embark on research initiatives that may offer incredible learnings in areas long sought after by the medical community," said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. "Participants on the Research app have the opportunity to make a tremendous impact that could lead to new discoveries and help millions lead healthier lives."

One of the studies -- the Apple Women’s Health Study -- is looking to press on the understanding of menstrual cycles and their relationship associated with various health conditions. Meanwhile, another study -- The Apple Heart and Movement Study -- will examine factors that affect 'heart health and mobility signals.'

Last but not least, the Apple Hearing Study will explore how submission to sound over time makes a difference in hearing abilities in humans.

Privacy concerns

In its blog post as well as the app, Apple has addressed privacy concerns around health-related data. Apple has assured the customer data will not be sold and it's up to users which study they want to join or leave at any moment. According to its rules and guidelines, users will be in full control over what types of data they want to share and users can stop sharing their data any moment.

Apple has also promised to be open and transparent about where and how these studies will access your data for their research purposes.
