Meta AI update: Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Platforms recently hosted its annual Meta Connect event wherein it unveiled its next generation Quest 3S mixed reality headset along with the new Orion VR glasses and new Ray-Ban smart glasses. In addition to hardware, the company announced updates to its generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot, Meta AI.

At Meta Connect 2024, the company announced that Meta AI is now powered by its updated large language model (LLM), Llama 3.2. This updated LLM brings a host of new capabilities to the Meta AI, including the ability to edit images.

Meta AI gets image editing feature

Until now, users could ask Meta AI to create images based on text-based prompts. But now, they can also ask it to edit their images. Meta says that users can now send an image in a chat with Meta AI and tell it all the changes that they want to make in the image.

"Now you can send an image in a chat with Meta AI and tell Meta AI what you want added, removed or changed in the photo – from changing your outfit to replacing the background with a rainbow," Meta wrote in a blog post.

Meta AI can also understand details in an image that users share with it and answer questions about the same.

Meta AI gets a voice

Another feature that Meta is bringing to the Meta AI is the ability to talk. Until now, users could interact with Meta AI only using text-based prompts. However now, users can ask questions to Meta AI using voice-based prompts, which it will answer 'out loud'.

This feature will be available on all of Meta's platforms, which include Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs. Users will be able to pick from AI voices of Awkwafina, Dame Judi Dench, John Cena, Keegan Michael Key and Kristen Bell when this feature becomes available.
