OpenAI on Wednesday, November 22, said that it has reached an agreement for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo.

Minutes after OpenAI confirmed the development, Sam Altman told on X that he loves OpenAI. He said everything he had done over the past few days had been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. Altman added that when he decided to join Microsoft on Sunday evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. He also said that with the new board and with Satya Nadella’s “support”, he is looking forward to returning to OpenAI, and building on our strong partnership with Microsoft.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has responded to Sam Altman's post on X. Nadella said, “We are encouraged by the changes to the OpenAI board. We believe this is the first essential step on a path to more stable, well-informed, and effective governance.”

Nadella further said that he talked with Sam Altman and Greg Brockman and agreed they have a key role to play along with the OpenAI leadership team.
