BHIM, or Bharat Interface for Money, now has an update, the BHIM 3.0, bringing new features such as split expenses, better internet connectivity, and support for more Indian languages. According to NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) — a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the BHIM 3.0 provides a more “customer-friendly” and “more intuitive” experience.
“The launch of BHIM 3.0 is another step towards empowering millions of users, merchants, and banks, helping India move further into a digitally inclusive future,” said Ajay Kumar Choudhary, non-executive chairman and independent director at NPCI.
The BHIM 3.0 brings four tentpole features that make it entirely different from the previous generation.
– Split Expense: Users can split bills with friends and family using the BHIM 3.0 app, which lets dividing expenses and making direct payments.
– Family Mode: The BHIM 3.0 app has a Family Mode, allowing users to add family members to their accounts to keep track of their expenses and assign specific payments. According to the company, this feature enables better financial planning by giving families a consolidated view of their expenses.
– Spends Analytics: The app brings a new dashboard, offering a comprehensive view of a user's monthly spending patterns based on their spending on BHIM 3.0. The dashboard automatically categorises expenses, so it becomes easier for users to analyse and manage their budgets without spreadsheets.
– Task Assistant: The BHIM 3.0 app has a built-in task assistant that reminds users of pending bills for linked accounts. It also alerts users when the balance in their UPI Lite wallet is low.
Apart from these customer-facing features, the BHIM 3.0 app also brings a better in-app payment solution for merchants, giving them the option to complete payments within the app without switching to third-party apps.
BHIM 3.0 will be rolled out in phases, with full availability likely by the end of April.
