Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged every person in India to use artificial intelligence as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s vision of Viksit Bharat. Speaking at the Republic Plenary Summit held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Naidu referred to the advice he gave in the mid-90s to encourage people to embrace AI and its use cases.

“Earlier in ‘95, I used to talk about IT. Today, I am talking about AI,” said Naidu, adding that he promoted the idea of one IT professional in every family back then, but now he has urged every person to use AI or innovate use cases in it. “Then only it [AI] is possible,” he said.

Growing digital data

Naidu also discussed how a variety of data available in large quantities today can help devise use cases through AI. “AI has come. Data is available on [the] cloud,” he said. Emphasising the need for channelling the data appropriately, Naidu said, “Real-time data can be captured through drones, CCTV cameras, apps, IoT, or wearables. Then, real-time solution, we can find it and communicate it.”

Is AI harmful?

Andhra Pradesh’s CM also jumped into the long-running debate on whether AI is a boon or a bane. His take: AI is a bane only if you fixate on its cons. “Sometimes people are saying that AI will destroy the ecosystem [and have] disadvantages. Always, [with] any system, there are problems. We have to take positives. Then, we can move forward. That is what I’m saying,” he said.

In other words, like every technology or ecosystem, AI has also both advantages and disadvantages. Naidu has urged users to focus more on the advantages of being able to embrace AI for their betterment. That is how India will decide its course to become the third-largest economy in the world.

“India is very fortunate. [It has a] very balancing leader, and [we are] proud of him. Wherever you go, he has commanding respect because of his conduct.”
