Asus’ new ZenBook Pro Duo laptop has two 4K screens and lots of fire power

At its annual Computex keynote event in Taiwan Asus launched a flurry of laptops, monitors, a 30th anniversary limited-edition ZenFone 6, and not to mention, motherboards – the star of the show however was a laptop called the ZenBook Pro Duo that sounds all sorts of crazy, when you hear about it for the first time. It’s like any other high-end gaming laptop, you know business as usual, until you find out that the ZenBook Pro Duo has two 4K screens – one of them is OLED, the other LCD. 

While even that may be business as usual for some, all your misconceptions are thrown out of the window when you find out, you can use the secondary display in the ZenBook Pro Duo (that Asus is calling ScreenPad Plus) – to your hearts’ content. It’s not like the touch bar on Apple’s poster child MacBook Pro, but a full-on 4K panel that takes almost half the area where you’d normally expect, the keyboard to be. A large part of this also has to do with Asus’ new Zephyrus-style forward-stationed keyboard that gives it lots of space to experiment.  

The ZenBook Pro Duo maybe the first mainstream laptop in the world that will let you use the secondary display as a monitor – rather than just another extension to the main screen. You’ll of course have to get used to the quality of the panel (there will be a visible difference between the primary OLED and secondary LCD) but the design will surely open more avenues for creatives – even more so than the MacBook Pro. Which means only one thing – the ZenBook Pro Duo may also be the first mainstream gaming laptop in the world that even creatives would want to pick up and vise versa. Asus will be also bundling software enhancements (ScreenXpert software) inside the ZenBook Pro Duo to make it more useful. 

Because clearly, there’s a lot to love here. The primary display on the ZenBook Pro Duo measures 15-inch and has an aspect ratio of 16:9, while the secondary display occupies the same width and has an aspect ratio of 32:9. 

There’s lots of fire power under the hood too. The maxed-out variant will ship with 8-core Intel Core i9 processor and an Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU paired with 32GB RAM and 1TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. The ZenBook Pro Duo supports Wi‑Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 3 for connectivity. Asus isn’t quoting any battery stats yet. 

There’s also a stripped-down version called the ZenBook Duo (14-inch) that Asus is launching alongside – it has two smaller 1080p displays, an Intel Core i7 and GeForce MX250 graphics. 

The ZenBook Pro Duo and ZenBook Duo will be available globally in the third quarter of this year. Prices will vary as per the region.
