Google announces new features for Pixel 9 series, Pixel 8 series, more: Top features

Pixel smartphones get new features: Google today announced new features that will soon be coming to its Pixel smartphones. The list includes features such as Audio Magic Eraser, support for underwater photography and improvements to Astrophotography to name a few. These features are a part of Google's October Pixel Drop and will be available exclusively on its devices.

It is worth noting that the announcement comes shortly after the company officially announced the much-awaited Android 15 mobile operating system. The company's Pixel smartphones will not only get features available as a part of the October Pixel Drop but also as a part of Android 15.

Here are all the new features coming to Google's Pixel 9 series, Pixel 8 series and older Pixel models:

Audio Magic Eraser

Google introduced the Magic Eraser feature for images in 2023. This year, the company updated the Magic Eraser by introducing a similar version for audio. Google says that the Audio Magic Eraser brings new editing tools that will enable users to reduce distracting sounds in a video. Users can turn specific sounds up or down. They can also separate voices to independently change their volumes.

This feature is available on Pixel 8 series and Pixel 9 series smartphones.

Support for underwater photography

Google today announced that now Pixel smartphone users can now use any waterproof case to capture under-the-sea moments owing to the improved underwater photography and video recording. This feature will be available on Pixel 9 series smartphone only.

Improved Astrophotography

Google has also made improvements to the astrophotography feature, which is available as a part of night sight. "Just tap the Night Sight icon, slide to Astro, and press the shutter button. You'll have 5 seconds to set the phone down facing the sky, and then you'll be capturing beautiful pictures of the night sky," Google explained in its blog.

This feature will be available in Pixel 6 series and all newer Pixel smartphone models.

Updated Thermometer app

Google has also updated its Thermometer app. The updated app uses the camera to get live temperature readings of various surfaces and save the results to reference them later. This feature is available in Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 series smartphones.

Updated Pixel Weather app

Google is rolling out a pollen tracker in the Pixel Weather app. This feature will enable users to check current pollen index levels, pollen types and forecasts before stepping outside. However, this feature is not available in India yet.
