It seems like only yesterday that Hauwei announced its crazy triple rear camera phone, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and already we are hearing rumours of its supposed successor. The Mate 30 Pro, or whatever Huawei decides to call its next high-end phone, will reportedly be even crazier with a five camera or penta-camera setup on the back.

This makes it oncoly the send device in the world that is tipped to launch with as many as five rear cameras, the other being the Nokia 9 PureView.

Huawei is said to have filed a new patent application for a smartphone case at the China National Intellectual Property Administration and basis of the renders shared, it seems we’re dealing with a hefty camera arrangement on the back of the yet-to-be-announced device. The cutout for the setup is substantial, suggesting that the alleged Huawei Mate 30 Pro will have five rear cameras. The report does not carry any technical evaluation and seems to be based on visuals, which means that it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Also, just because Huawei has filed a patent for a case that would supposedly represent a five camera phone, doesn’t mean the company would actually launch such a device. Tech companies are known to file patents from time to time, and not every patent becomes an actual product.

Regardless, Huawei was the first major company to launch a triple rear camera phone and it won’t be surprising if it is working on a device with five rear cameras. Sadly, there is no other piece of information to share about it at this point of time.

In the meanwhile, HMD is gearing to launch the Nokia 9 PureView soon and there is enough evidence already that it would come with a penta-camera system. This penta-camera setup will apparently allow for up to 10x increased light capture for enhanced low-light photography, and in shooting “stunning crisp HDR photos.” Again, exact technical details of the Nokia 9 PureView cameras isn’t known yet, but we should have more clarity about it in the coming weeks.
