Realme will launch Realme 3 Pro in India in April to take on Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro

Oppo spinoff brand Realme launched the budget Realme 3 phone in India on Monday. The Realme 3 has been designed from ground up to take on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 – Realme was quite vocal about this at its press event. As a gradual extension to this competitive spree, Realme also announced that it is working on a Pro variant of the Realme 3, aka the Realme 3 Pro.  

Realme will launch the  Realme 3 Pro in India in April to take on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro. No further details have been shared although did it say that the Realme 3 Pro will be a fast phone with speed being one of its key highlights. In the presentation slide shown off by Realme at its press event, the company sort of recapped all the specs of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro – primarily its 48MP rear camera with Sony IMX586 sensor. Even as it stayed mum about the Realme 3 Pro.  

There have been rumours that Realme is working on a phone with a Redmi Note 7 (China-variant)-like 48MP camera, but this is something that Realme India CEO, Madhav Sheth has already denied. Sort of.  

“For Realme, we are not going to adapt the high megapixel just for the sake of launching it because we believe that camera tuning and software optimization is even more important. We always strive to give our users the best combination of both hardware and software,” is what the Realme India CEO had said during an AMA session adding that “a very high megapixel like 48MP doesn’t necessarily stand for 4 times enhancement comparing to a 12MP sensor. This number doesn't necessarily mean high quality.” 

Could it be that Realme is indeed working on a 48MP camera phone? Could that phone be the Realme 3 Pro? We can’t say for sure yet. All we know is that Realme is gearing to take the fight to Xiaomi – with the Realme 3 to begin with. Realme also seemingly took a dig at Xiaomi at its press event saying, “we sell phones, we don’t sell ads.” Indirectly referring to Xiaomi’s practice of showing ads in MIUI.  

Realme has launched the Realme 3 in India at a starting price of Rs 8,999 for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, going all the way to Rs 10,999 for the top-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It will be interesting to see what Realme has in store with the Realme 3 Pro in the days to come.
