The Samsung Galaxy Fold is apparently off to a record start in India. According to an IANS report, the Samsung Galaxy Fold was sold out in just 30 minutes after it was put up on pre-order on February 20. Samsung had not revealed a number, but it had said that only limited number of Samsung Galaxy Fold units will be sold in India initially – that's how Samsung is selling the Galaxy Fold in other markets as well. The IANS report, that cites “highly placed sources” suggests that Samsung had put up 1,600 units of the Galaxy Fold on sale. That's units sold via the company's official online store.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold costs Rs 1,64,999 in India. The report adds that all those who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold, “paid the full amount of Rs 1,64,999 upfront -- another first in the super-premium smartphone segment.”

It isn’t clear if Samsung is looking to bring in more inventory. Pre-orders have been closed at this point of time. Those who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold on Samsung India’s online store and Samsung Shop will be eligible to get their device delivered to them through a concierge, with shipping to commence from October 20. The Galaxy Fold was also simultaneously up for pre-order offline in 35 cities across select 315 outlets, including the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru.

Galaxy Fold buyers will be eligible for the Galaxy Fold Premier Service, which will offer, in addition to 24x7 expert customer care, a one-year Infinity Flex Display Protection – this will include accidental damage coverage with one-time protection, genuine parts, expert repair service and Galaxy Fold’s display, and discounted repair for Rs 10,500.

Considering how the Galaxy Fold has been marred by controversy owing to its seemingly questionable durability, numbers seem to suggest, buyers – at least in India – are still interested to invest in its one-of-its-kind foldable form factor. The Galaxy Fold is India’s first foldable device that lets you access both a smartphone and tablet for factor in one device. Key hardware specs of the Galaxy Fold include: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, and a total of six cameras. The Galaxy Fold further packs two batteries which entail in a total battery capacity of 4,380mAh.
