According to reports, you should be able to operate Apple's next iPhone underwater. This is possible, courtesy of next-gen displays that can successfully register touch input underwater. This is somewhat different from waterproofing. Sure, waterproofing does protect your iPhone from damage caused by water, especially when you accidentally drop your iPhone in water. But it only ensures that your iPhone doesn't become useless

There are different IP ratings that establish different rules such as how deep is your iPhone lying in there and for how long. The display on current iPhone models doesn't operate underwater but it might change with the next iPhone. Last month, XDA's Max Weinbach had said in his tweet that Apple is readying the displays that work underwater and they are currently in the prototype phase. Here's what Weinbach had to say:

"The next iPhones are probably going to have displays that work underwater. It’s in the prototype stage right now but seems likely. They have a patent for it and are finally doing it.‏"

"Got a source saying it’s in the prototype stage currently, like I said before, and works for a few prototypes," Weinbach added citing an anonymous source.

Last month, we saw a report claiming that Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 (or whatever branding they come up with) will feature a triple rear camera unit. Currently, both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max feature the same dual rear camera unit. The third sensor on the upcoming iPhone should take care of 3D depth mapping with the help of a time-of-flight camera.

Another report suggested that Apple may be planning to ditch their proprietary lightning port in favour of a USB Type-C port and then we also saw a contradictory report suggesting the other way around. Therefore, we are seeking more clarity on that front.
