Lava has launched a new smartphone series, Shark, aimed at first-time smartphone users. The first model in the series brings entry-level specifications, but its design similar to that of the iPhone 16 Pro stands out. Lava claims the new phone focuses on “design, performance, and build quality” while reducing costs significantly.
The new Lava Shark costs ₹6,999 and comes in Titanium Gold and Stealth Black colours. It will be available exclusively from Lava’s retail stores later this month. Lava claims the Shark smartphone is eligible for the company’s free ‘Service at Home’ for doorstep pickups and deliveries for repairs under warranty.
The new Lava Shark boasts a 6.67-inch HD+ (720x1612 pixels) display with a punch-hole design and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display has a pixel density of 269 PPI. Powering the smartphone is an octa-core Unisoc T606 chip, paired with 4GB of RAM. However, users can add up to 4GB of RAM virtually using the dynamic RAM expansion feature. The Lava Shark runs bloat-free Android 14-based software.
For photography, the Lava Shark packs a 50MP AI rear camera, facilitated by an LED flash. Its 8MP selfie camera, located inside the punch-hole, uses the screen as the flash to aid night photography. Lava has equipped the Shark smartphone with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, but users can also opt for face unlock. Keeping the lights on the Lava Shark is a 5000mAh battery, which charges at 18W speed.
While Lava’s Shark seems a good option theoretically, it faces competition in its price category. The latest contender is the Vivo V19e, which offers military-grade durability and an IP64 rating for water and dust resistance alongside specifications on par with the Shark. The Vivo V19e costs slightly higher at ₹7,999 and is now available to buy across online and offline stores in India.
