Paying utility bills has just become easier.  Now, Amazon users can pay their utility bills by using Amazon Pay. But that's not the best part. The best part is, they can do so by simply talking to Alexa -- Amazon's digital voice assistant.

Paying utility bills directly via online wallets isn't new. Google Pay allows it. PhonePe allows it. There are other online wallet apps out there with similar payment methods. Finally, the wait is over! Now, it's also coming to Amazon Pay.

How does it work

Before we discuss how to pay utility bills using this method, let's first see what kind of utility bills can be paid using Amazon Pay.  You can pay your electricity bill, post-paid mobile bill, renew your broadband, DTH and other services, etc.

"Amazon Pay’s integration with Alexa will enable customers to use digital payments for their daily use cases making it hassle-free and swift," said Puneesh Kumar, Country Manager for Alexa Experiences and Devices, Amazon India.

Amazon Pay lets you pay bills just by talking to Alexa, check now

What's more, you can use this feature to pay bills across any of your Alexa enabled devices (Amazon Echo, Fire TV Stick and other devices). All you need to do is give commands such as “Alexa, pay my mobile bill” or “Alexa, pay my electricity bill.” If you are an existing Amazon Pay user, Alexa will first tell you how much is the due amount for the particular utility from your registered Amazon account. The payment will be processed only after your confirmation or consent.

How to check balance

You can enable a voice pin for authentication for additional security. Post payment approval, Alexa uses Amazon Pay and completes the transaction. You will receive a notification on your registered mobile number. If you are new to Amazon Pay, first you need to register bill details to your account. You can also check your Amazon Pay wallet balance by talking to Alexa.

You simply say: “Alexa, what’s my balance?” Additionally, you can also top-up your Amazon Pay account. All you need to say: “Alexa, add ₹500 to my Amazon Pay balance." Complete the transaction by following the link sent by Amazon to your registered mobile number.

Amazon Alexa now understands and speaks Hindi and even Hinglish

"We are also excited to share that this is an India-first feature which Alexa customers in India can enjoy before any other international customers," Kumar added.
