Looking at an Instagram post with a calm, turquoise lake in it can be pleasant, allowing influencers to enjoy maximum viewership on their photos and videos. According to reports, many Instagram influencers are flocking to Russia's Siberian lake for a photo-shoot despite being asked to stay clear of it. Authorities have warned Instagram influencers to stay away from the 'magical' lake because of its water being toxic.

Instagram accounts like sup_novosibirsk and maldives_nsk feature photos of Instagram users posing for stunning pictures taken at 'Siberian Maldives' lake. But in reality, the lake is nothing but a toxic dump for the local coal plant that pumps waste into it. Siberian Generating Company has issued an advisory asking people not to take selfies there.

"You can not swim in the ash dump. The water in it has a high alkaline environment. This is due to the fact that calcium salts and other metal oxides are dissolved in it. Skin contact with such water may cause an allergic reaction," Siberian Generating Company said in its statement (translated). "The bottom of the ash dump is muddy. Getting out of the reservoir alone is almost impossible."
