The much-expected launch of Spotify in India is apparently set for January 31. This means that it could no only be a matter of time before the music streaming service officially sets foot within the Indian music and content streaming scenario.

Now, as per a Variety report, that quotes unnamed sources, Spotify may launch with T-Series tie up. Here, it is worth noting that Spotify had for long been rumoured to ink deals in India with labels such as Sony during the time of launch. For starters, T-Series currently boasts of a music library of more than 150,000 tracks.

Also, Spotify would reportedly launch even in regional languages such as Tamil, Punjabi, Malayalam, Bengali, and Telugu before expanding to other Indian languages. In this scenario, enthusiasts expecting to see Spotify at the earliest in India are potentially likely to ponder over on whether there would be free trial periods offered to early adapters of Spotify India. Loyalists could share thoughts/insights on this.

Nonetheless, once officially launched, Spotify could come under intense competition from the likes of Saavn (now JioSavn), Gaana, and other music streaming services.

At this juncture, content consumption in India has undoubtedly become smarter thanks to the increased penetration of “enablers” such as the JioPhones and increased awareness among the Indian populace. This is potentially set to benefit the entertainment industry, and with the inevitable 5G network penetration expected to serve as a shot-in-the-arm for all things digital, services like music streaming apps could become all the smarter in the near future.

As far as 5G in India is concerned, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has expressed optimism about the connectivity standard

“5G spectrum, unlike the previous spectrums of 2G, 3G and 4G will not be focusing on high speed or connectivity only. Rather it will be an important and horizontal platform where multiple applications will ride fine, especially the real-time and M2M apps, because of the very little latency feature,” stated Ram Sevak Sharma who is Chairman at TRAI.
