Apex Legends- the relatively new entrant into the battle-royale gaming franchise could now set foot into Chinese territory. Now, this assumes significance considering the fact that the game has turned out to be popular as it onboarded as many as 25 million players within the first week of launch.
As per a South China Morning Post report, Tencent is said to be in negotiations with Electronic Arts to take Apex Legends (published by Electronic Arts) into China. The report quotes sources familiar with these plans, and also states that there has been no concrete acceptance from either parties with respect to taking the game to China, but this is reported potential development.
Apart from Apex Legends, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Fortnite are other popular battle-royale titles that have captured the fancy of players across the Asian markets. This is evident with the toned-down PC variant of PUBG called the PUBG Lite that is now in beta rapidly expanding to more Asian countries. Hence, it could only be about time before the game hits India as well.
At this instant in time, Apex Legends is also rumoured to be launched in a mobile version at an unknown point in the near future. When this turns into a reality, there could be serious competition to PUBG Mobile that has just witnessed the seeding of the update 0.11.0 introducing zombies.
