A TikTok competitor and viral video app Likee has introduced some new in-app parental controls allowing parents to 'filter content exposure.' Of late, Bigo's Likee app appears to be posing a serious competition to ByteDance's viral video app TikTok. Thanks to these new parental controls, parents and guardians can customise content exposure for their children under 18. Likee on Tuesday announced the launch of new Parental Controls feature in the app, across mobile platforms. This is expected to help parents exercise relevant controls over their children's content consumption on Likee. Some of these controls also allow parents to filter content for their children who are under the age of 18.
Over the period, Likee has emerged as one of the popular social media apps worldwide, according to the Sensor Tower report. Likee said as the consumption among its users grows, it aims to provide its teenage users with 'relevant and positive' content to and 'promote safe user experience.' Likee also said the platform has been pushing for positive content by creating relevant virtual campaigns and events such as #IAMINDIAN. will enable the platform to emerge as the most significant positive media-centric social media app.

Parental controls password-protected and passwords are required to be changed every seven days. Once enabled, Parental Controls will change user experience within each section available in Likee to a certain extent. Formerly LIKE Video, Likee is a short video creation app that allows users to share their videos with friends. Similar to TikTok, Likee users can record themselves while dancing and lip-syncing to popular songs and audio clips available. It also lets users broadcast themselves in real-time. Likee has reached more 100 million app installs on Google Play so far.
