If you are a WhatsApp user, then it is vital that you are informed about the popular instant messaging platform exiting a mobile operating system (OS). This platform is the Microsoft Windows Phone Mobile operating platforms. WhatsApp support, for Windows Phones, is said to be discontinued from 31 December this year.

6 months left for WhatsApp to bid goodbye to your Windows Phones

At this point, WhatsApp had earlier published an official posting with respect to ending support for multiple mobile operating platforms; and going by this, Windows Phone’s turn would come on 31 December 2019; it becomes relevant to check this information out at this point in time considering the fact that the number of Windows Phone users have only continued to dwindle and are on the verge of extinction; compared to the number of users the platform had at the time of original publication of the official WhatsApp blog post (which was 2016).

“This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading,” stated folks at WhatsApp.

Now, in case you are amongst the rare breed of Windows Phone users, the only way out now is to upgrade to a newer Google Android or Apple iOS device as all variants of Microsoft’s mobile operating system would not support WhatsApp after 31 December this year.

Even older Android and iOS versions would not support WhatsApp, after these dates

If you thought that WhatsApp would continue support for older Android and iOS platforms, then you should remember the below dates indicating end of support for these platforms:

  • Post 1 February 2020, all older Android versions starting from Android 2.3.7 would not support WhatsApp
  • All iPhone versions, older than iOS 7, would be termed ineligible for WhatsApp.
