WhatsApp could be prepping to offer audio playback support in notifications. According to WAbetainfo, upcoming WhatsApp updates would let users play audio messages directly through notifications. WhatsApp already allows users to read WhatsApp messages directly through notifications. WhatsApp also allow users to reply to messages directly through notifications. As per the report, WhatsApp could be extending its capability with regards to notifications actions to audio clips with the future updates. Here is everything we know so far about WhatsApp's plans to enable audio playback in notifications.

WhatsApp audio playback in notifications

Of late, Facebook-owned instant messaging app has been working on several features that are going to be available to users sometime in the future. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has also been working to improve some of its existing features - the ones that have already been implemented by WhatsApp. However, this is not the first time we have heard about WhatsApp implementing audio playback in notifications. Previously, we came across a report that WhatsApp was developing a feature or support that would enable users to listen to audio clips and messages directly through notifications and respond instantly. This way, users need not open WhatsApp to respond to audio messages.

iOS first?

In what could be good news for iPhone users, WhatsApp is said to be rolling out this feature to iOS users first. So, if you are using WhatsApp for iOS, you may receive audio playback notification support before Android users. However, there is no way Android users will miss out on this feature - given that Android 10 opens up quite new opportunities for WhatsApp to implement this feature more as a productivity hack. Android 10 brings several new features and improvements to the operating system. One of the key highlights of Android has to be suggested actions in notifications. This way, you shall see suggested replies and actions for 'all' messaging notifications. Interestingly, it allows developers to supply their suggestions.

How it works?

All you need to do is update WhatsApp to the 2.19.91.1 beta version from TestFlight. WhatsApp Business beta for iOS 2.19.90.8 is also eligible to get audio playback notifications support remotely. If you still don't see this feature working for you, you can reinstall the app. However, ensure that you have a backup of your chat history. This way, you will not lose any of your WhatsApp messages. To see if this feature is enabled for you, you can ask someone in your contact to send you an audio message. Once you receive the message, see if you can play the audio clip in notifications. For now, we don't know if users can also reply to those messages. More details awaited as to how this is going to work.
