You can finally pair multiple Google Home and Home Mini smart speakers to get stereo output, according to a new Android Police report. This has been one feature that has eluded Google’s original Home and Home Mini since launch for some reason even though both the smart speakers have been around for a while now. The Google Home Mini, for some perspective, was launched in 2017.

That said, ever since Google launched the Nest Mini – which is basically the second-generation Google Home Mini with seemingly improved audio – with stereo pairing support, there has been speculation that the original Home and Home Mini could also get it through a software update. The feature is already available on a few third-party Google Assistant-based smart speakers – it is also a key feature of arch rival Amazon’s Echo smart speakers. Google is yet to officially announce the feature rollout though.

Stereo pairing will allow users to pair two Home or Home Mini speakers together and make them function as if they were one – with stereo separation while playing content for a more immersive audio experience. The whole thing will then be controlled by the Google Home app, giving users single control for music and volume.

The update has been a long time coming, just like the second-generation Nest Mini. Google says the Nest Mini “is completely re-engineered to make everything you love about the original even better.” The biggest update is possibly coming in the audio department. The Nest Mini apparently brings twice the bass as the original for a “full, clear and natural sound at every volume level.” The smart speaker will also light up every time you’re listening to music and bring your hand close to it to seamlessly adjust the volume. The Nest Mini can also pair with other Nest speakers “to build a sound system for your whole home,” and the setup will then also let you make Google Duo calls between them. The Google Nest Mini has been launched at a price of $49 (roughly Rs 3,500).
