Asus announced a bevy of high-end gaming laptops and desktops in India on Tuesday. But the real star of the show was the ROG Mothership, a high-end gaming laptop that’s being (rightly) referred to in tech circuits as a Surface Pro for gamers. Before you get your hopes high, let me tell you that, Asus hasn’t launched the ROG Mothership in the Indian market just yet – Asus is simply showing it off right now. As it did at CES 2019, where the laptop was first announced. The ROG Mothership is coming soon to India though, which is reason enough to be excited.

This is because, the ROG Mothership is all sorts of crazy – in fact, you’ll be hard pressed to make out if it's real or just another concept prototype. It is real alright, and nothing like anything that we have seen before.

The ROG Mothership is a 17.3-inch gaming laptop with a Microsoft Surface-style pop-out kickstand, and a detachable keyboard - it's a 2-in-1 of gaming laptops. This thing may sound and look insane but there’s a method to its madness, something that only hardcore gamers will relate to. Unlike conventional gaming laptops, the ROG Mothership seats up vertically when in use, which makes it much easier to vent out heat: which should (at least in theory) entail in a relatively cooler gaming experience.

The ROG Mothership does not skimp on hardware either which is nothing short of an engineering marvel. The ROG Mothership has a 17.3-inch 1080p display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and Nvidia’s G-Sync support, Nvidia’s RTX 2080 GPU and Intel’s Core i9-8950HK processor with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM, and HyperDrive Extreme storage with three NVMe SSDs (RAID 0 Array).

Connectivity options on the ROG Mothership include USB Type-C based Thunderbolt 3 port, standard USB Type-C port, four USB Type-A ports, HDMI, Ethernet, SD card slot, Ethernet port and dual 280W charging ports.

Asus is yet to announce price and availability of the ROG Mothership for the Indian market, but it should arrive in India by the end of this year.
