The key highlight, Foxconn would only assemble the top-end models, such as those falling under Apple’s flagship iPhone X line-up. Foxconn would begin assembling top-of-the-line iPhones at its manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, Reuters cited an unnamed source.

Foxconn has already been producing smartphones for Xiaomi in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative. Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister M C Sampath told Reuters that Foxconn will invest 25 billion Indian rupees (approximately $356 million) as part of Foxconn’s expansion plans in the country.

Sampath was further quoted as saying that this investment may lead to the creation of as many as 25,000 jobs.

The report cited another source as saying that Foxconn’s plan to assemble iPhones in India is expected help both the companies and help Apple reduce the impact of a trade war between the United States and China.

Earlier, there was a report thatApple’s expensive pricing is responsible for its struggle in India. India happens to be the second-largest smartphone market, following China.
