With MTNL now getting set to be merged into BSNL, the state-led telco’s unlimited plans now offer free voice calling and benefits to MTNL numbers. These plans are the Rs 666, Rs 485, and Rs 429 prepaid recharge schemes respectively. If you are a BSNL subscriber, do check out free calling.

BSNL-MTNL free calling in Mumbai and Delhi

Now, with the above initiative, subscribers can also make free calls to Mumbai and Delhi telecom circles where MTNL has its operations. As per a TelecomTalk report, customers of plans like the Rs 666 scheme (even the Rs 429 and Rs 489 scheme ones) would be able to make free unlimited voice calls to MTNL numbers to Delhi and Mumbai regions. “Unlimited voice facility including MTNL network in Mumbai and Delhi with FUP (Customer using more than 250 minutes outgoing minutes [(local+STD+outgoing Roaming) (On-net/off-net) as per Unlimited recharge benefits] in a day will be charged at base plan tariff, after consumption of 250 minutes for the rest of the day till midnight 0.00hrs.),” stated BSNL.

At this juncture, all eyes are now firmly on BSNL as the telco has been given a special revival package by the government. 4G spectrum, full-fledged, would also be allotted on priority. As far as the MTNL-BSNL merger is concerned, it is expected to take some more time to complete formalities. Post the merger, all MTNL subscribers would be ported to the BSNL network which is bound to get stronger once full-fledged 4G spectrum rolls out.

Also, the Interconnect Usage Charges (IUC) has become a hotly discussed topic, of late. This is because Jio has begun levying 6 paise per minute as IUC on subscribers making voice calls to other non-Jio networks. The telco has come out with both all-in-one-plans as well as IUC-specific plans to let subscribers make free calls including the IUC ones.
