With 5G projected to take center focus over the next couple of years, hardware compatible with the next-gen network standards are set to be focused as early as during the CES 2019. Here, internet peripherals hardware giant DLink is set to demo a 5G router called the DWR-2010. For starters, the CES 2019 takes place from January 8 in Las Angeles and goes on till January 12.

Now, DLink’s DWR-2010 syncs with 5G networks and download speeds are claimed to go as high as up to 3 Gbps (region-specific). These are comparatively faster speeds considering the fact that multimedia and digital content consumption have been making rapid inroads into all strata of society.

The DLink DWR-2010 5G router also lets service providers carry out customizations, enabling relatively easier deployment over a wide range of network configurations. Under-the-hood, the DWR 2010 5G router incorporates a 5G NR New Radio NSA module that can work over the sub-6 GHz or mm Wave frequencies in 200 MHz (2 x 100 MHz) or 800 MHz (8 x 100 MHz) configurations. There are remote management options as well for users, in tandem with the FOTA. Hence, on paper at least, the DLink DWR 2010 deserves a potential checking out during the CES 2019.

As far as its price tag and availability are concerned, the 5G hardware would be available during the later part of 2019. Price tag varies based on geographies and service providers operating in these regions.

“With expanded spectrum and new applications, 5G is going to bring more competition to the broadband market within the coming years," said Raman Bridwell, who is Vice President of Products and Services at DLink; during the unveiling of the DLink DWR 2010.

“This gateway will help more people access that network in more places with the same wireline experience we have today,” he added.

In CES-related developments, the premier consumer electronics event is also slated to witness exclusive tracks focusing on smart cities, healthcare technology, digital health, and smart automotive. If you are desirous of checking these out, do ensure to possess the appropriate entry passes.
