Apple Watch 4 is now upgraded with electrocardiogram (ECG) capabilities enabling users record ECG with pulse rate captured though the wrist. Now, USP of this development is Apple’s increased focus on healthcare technology that could very well revolutionize modern-day primary healthcare system across the world.

With Apple Watch 4 updated, the device upon capturing users’ ECG would send alerts in case of irregular heartbeat patterns/rhythms. This information could serve as vital data for doctors to critically monitor cardiac-related data of patients. Here, with this ECG data, doctors could potentially dedicate increased time in diagnosis and treatments than in capturing data (which is done by the ECG app in the Apple Watch 4).

The Apple Watch 4, with the new update, is said to be capable enough of sounding alerts with respect to Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). At this point in time, this update is only applicable to Apple Watch 4 users in the US; it is not known whether the update would make inroads into other economies.

“With the release of these heart features, Apple Watch takes the next step in empowering people with more information about their health.” stated Jeff Williams who is Chief Operating Officer at Apple.

Apple Watch 4 users would be able to check out the new cardiac features within their wearables when a new update to the WatchOS 5.1.2 seeds and updates the irregular heart rhythm notification functionality. Do check these out and share insights; lso, is this the beginning of a healthcare-technology revolution? across the globe?

At this juncture, Apple Watch 4 users can download the updated WatchOS 5.1.2 platform.
