Huawei’s new P30 and P30 Pro are high-end phones that focus broadly on three aspects – design, cameras and performance. The P30 Pro, of course, is the more premiere of the two but the P30 is also not very far behind. Having said that, there’s still a lot of difference between the P30 and P30 Pro phones when it comes to paper specs – making each one stand out from the other.

There’s a difference in all-round design, there’s a difference in screen size, there’s a difference in rear cameras, and there’s a difference in battery capacity – which is why it is imperative to understand all the differences between the P30 and P30 Pro. Here’s a closer look.

  • At the offset, both the P30 and P30 Pro have the same design - Huawei is retaining its signature light-bending gradient finish. Both the P30 and P30 Pro use 9 layers of nano optical colour finish and will be available in five colours - Breathing Crystal, Amber Sunrise, Pearl White, Black and Aurora. Both the phones have a teardrop-style notch on the front. Both the P30 and P30 Pro come with in-display fingerprint scanners which are said to be 30 per cent faster than the one on the Mate 20 Pro. But while the P30 Pro is a bigger phone, the P30 is smaller. The P30 Pro is also curvier, especially from the front – sort of like the Mate 20 Pro.
  • The P30 Pro is IP68-certified which means that it is dust and water resistant. The P30 is just splash resistant with an IP53 rating.
  • The P30 Pro comes with a 6.47-inch curved OLED display with a 1080p+ resolution. The P30 Pro uses the display as the earpiece - Huawei calls it acoustic display technology. The P30 meanwhile has a 6.1-inch OLED display with 1080p+ resolution.'
  • Both the P30 and P30 Pro are powered by Huawei's in-house Kirin 980 processor and run Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.1. But while the P30 comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, the P30 Pro is available in three variants - 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB. Both the phones support expandable storage via Huawei’s proprietary NM cards.
  • The P30 has a headphone jack. The P30 Pro does not.
  • The P30 Pro packs a quad camera setup on the rear. It has a 40MP primary rear camera (27mm f/1.6 with OIS) which uses a custom Sony sensor that uses an industry first RYYB array for up to 40 per cent more light intake, an 8MP 125mm telephoto sensor with f/3.4 aperture and OIS - Huawei is using a periscope lens that's capable of achieving 5X optical zoom, 10X hybrid zoom and 50X digital zoom, a 20MP ultra-wide camera (16mm f/2.2) and a Time-of-Flight camera for 3D depth mapping purposes. The P30 packs a triple camera setup on the rear, consisting of one 40MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP telephoto sensor for 3X optical zoom.
  • On the front, both the P30 and P30 Pro come with a 32MP camera.
  • The P30 Pro uses a 4,200mAh battery with 40W fast charging and 15W fast wireless charging - the P30 Pro also supports reverse wireless charging. The P30, on the other hand, has a 3,650mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging but no wireless charging.
  • Huawei has launched the P30 Pro at a starting price of Euros 999 (roughly Rs 78,000) for the base version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage going all the way to Euros 1,249 (roughly Rs 97,000) for the top-end version with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage. The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage version of the P30 Pro has been launched at Euros 1,099 (roughly Rs 85,500). The P30 has meanwhile been launched at a price of Euros 799 for the version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage which roughly translates to Rs 62,000.
  • Huawei has confirmed that it will launch the P30 Pro in India soon. That's not surprising since the vanilla P20 also never made it to India - only the P20 Pro did.
