OnePlus would showcase a prototype of its first OnePlus 5G smartphone that is driven by a  Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019). To embrace the dawn of 5G, attendees will be able to experience 5G cloud gaming on the new 5G prototype device, which will be displayed at Qualcomm Technologies’ booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10).

During the MWC 2019, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau is slated to be joined by Qualcomm President Cristiano R. Amon, and EE CEO Marc Allera, in a panel discussion led by Marisa Viveros, Executive at IBM leading Strategy and Solutions for Global Telecommunications, to discuss the future and possibilities of 5G.

Since its founding, OnePlus has taken seemingly considered feedback to its users’ proactively and designed phones accordingly. To prepare for 5G,

OnePlus established its own research labs and began research on5G way back in 2016. A year later, it started working with Qualcomm Technologies, on OnePlus’ 5G device development. In August 2018, the OnePlus 5G Project Team successfully established a 5G connection to Qualcomm Technologies’ laboratory located in San Diego, in the United States of America (USA).

Here, Pete Lau made the world’s first 5G tweet by connecting a prototype device to a 5G Non-standalone Network, via an LTE b7 + 5G NR n78 air interface.

By partnering with carriers such as EE to push forward the era of 5G multi-gigabit connectivity, OnePlus will be the first to release a 5G commercial smartphone in the UK. EE runs the UK's biggest and fastest mobile network, offering superfast 4G in more places than any other operator, and will be switching on 5G sites in 16 UK cities in 2019. OnePlus and EE are working on a Research and Development partnership to ensure the best possible 5G connected experience for customers.

Marc Allera, CEO of BT Consumer & EE, said: “EE and OnePlus have a shared vision: to give our customers the best-connected experience possible. We’re working together on cutting edge technology to deliver that, and we’re leading the world on the journey to 5G. We have the ambition to connect our customers to 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi 100% of the time.”

OnePlus has been collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies on 5G development since 2017 and have made significant strides in getting a device ready for 5G commercialization in 2019. OnePlus will be among the first smartphone companies to feature the new flagship with the Snapdragon 855.

“Our strong relationship with mobile industry leaders like Qualcomm Technologies and EE makes us believe that we could bring the best 5G device to the world. Our mission to tackle 5G head on was decided together with our community members. No other company out there is better suited to take on 5G than OnePlus,” stated Pete Lau.
