Oppo spin-off brand Realme launched its premium mid-ranger Realme X phone in India on Monday at a starting price of Rs 16,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, going all the way to Rs 19,999 for the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Realme is also bringing the "Garlic" and "Onion" Master Editions of the Realme X to India – in addition to the standard blue and white. There’s also a limited Spider-Man: Far From Home edition of the Realme X tagging along which is essentially the white 8GB/128GB variant of the phone with a custom red colour case thrown in – there's also a special retail box and themes to commemorate Realme’s collaboration with Marvel.

The Realme X is a lower mid-tier phone which packs an AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 48MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX586 sensor and a 16MP pop-up selfie shooter, and 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging – the Realme X is not a follow up or successor to the Realme 3 Pro though. The Realme X is a more premium offering and is also Realme’s most expensive smartphone to date in India.

Realme X specs and features

The Realme X boasts of a gradient design language like the Realme 3 Pro and Realme 3 – the phone will be available in Polar White and Space Blue colour options. Underneath, it’s all plastic though, just like the Realme 3 Pro and Realme 3.

Speaking of specs, the Realme X has a 6.53-inch 1080p+ AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection up-top – a first for Realme. The pop-up selfie cam setup on-board the Realme X allows Realme to offer a screen-to-body ratio of a whopping 91.2 per cent. The Realme X also ditches a conventional fingerprint scanner for an optical in-display solution, like the OnePlus 7 Pro/OnePlus 7.

Under the hood, the Realme X has a 2.2Ghz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor (same as the Realme 3 Pro) paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage which is non-expandable. The dual-SIM Realme X runs Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 software – the Realme X marks the official debut of Realme’s in-house theme store in India.

The Realme X further packs a 3,765mAh battery and supports Oppo’s VOOC 3.0 flash charge which is claimed to top the battery from 0-55 per cent in just 30 minutes. Realme will be bundling a 20W fast charger and a proprietary Type-C cable in the box – the Realme X is the first Realme phone to come with USB Type-C.

On to the optics, the Realme X has a dual camera system on the rear consisting of a 48MP (Sony IMX 586) sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Realme X comes with a 16MP camera with a Sony IMX471 sensor. Hallmark Realme features such as Nightscape (which is Realme’s take on the night mode we’ve come to see on many phones lately) and Chroma Boost (used for achieving greater dynamic range and more balanced exposure under different lighting scenarios) are available on the Realme X.

Realme X price and availability

The Realme X starts at Rs 16,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage will cost Rs 19,999. The Realme X will be available for buying from July 24 from Flipkart and Realme online store – and from offline stores later. Realme will be hosting a special hate-to-wait sale for the Realme X on July 18.

The "Garlic" and "Onion" Master Editions of the Realme X will cost Rs 19,999.

The limited Spider-Man: Far From Home edition of the Realme X will cost Rs 20,999.
