Redmi Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 flagship phone will be eligible for Android Q beta at launch

Xiaomi’s Mi 9 and Mi Mix 5G are already eligible for the Android Q beta update and very soon a third Xiaomi phone, the upcoming Redmi Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 flagship phone will also support it. Redmi chief Lu Weibing has confirmed that the company’s soon-to-launch flagship phone will be eligible for Android Q beta at launch which means early adopters will be able to try out Google’s latest and greatest software alongside Pixel users. 

Weibing has still not revealed a possible launch window for the flagship but now that the incoming spree of teaser information has increased, hopefully a launch should follow soon enough. Weibing has already confirmed that the flagship Redmi phone will be optimised for gaming and that it will come with a two-day battery life.  

Xiaomi already has a dedicated game mode called gaming speed boost that helps improve performance – that, in addition to intelligent CPU acceleration and dynamic resource allocation features that were introduced in MIUI 9. It would be interesting to see if what Weibing is referring to builds upon all of that or whether Redmi is looking to roll-out some new MIUI quirks alongside its new flagship. 

Rumour mills have it that Redmi is working on not one, but two flagship phones and one of them could turn out to be the Poco F2. It would also be interesting to see if Android Q beta is available for both the devices, should Redmi launch them in the first place. 

Android Q is now available in beta. It has been in beta since March – but at I/O 2019, Google rolled it out of select preview so now more phones support it The Android Q beta 1 was exclusive to Google’s Pixel phones – Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. With the Android Q beta (3), Google has now opened the platform for third-party devices. Broadly speaking, Android Q beta (3) is available for 21 devices from 13 brands, including all Pixel phones.         

These include the Asus ZenFone 5Z, Essential PH-1, Nokia 8.1, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, LG G8 ThinQ, OnePlus 6T, Oppo Reno, Realme 3 Pro, Sony Xperia XZ3, Tecno Spark 3 Pro, Vivo X27, Vivo NEX S, Vivo NEX A, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, Xiaomi Mi 9.
