Samsung recently announced the world’s first 64MP smartphone camera sensor – the Samsung GW1 sensor. With Xiaomi and Realme already shipping devices with the 64MP sensor, it was only about time that Samsung also joined the bandwagon. It is doing that now. The Galaxy A70s is Samsung’s first 64MP camera phone and it will be available for buying in India from September 28 at a starting price of Rs 28,999 for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, going all the way to Rs 30,999 for the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Samsung Galaxy A70s specs and features

The main USP of the phone is without a doubt its 64MP camera that uses Samsung’s own 64MP GW1 sensor. The sensor works on the same principle as its 48MP GM1 and 32MP GD1 sensors – effectively producing sharper, more detailed 16MP photos in low light, and using software interpolation to produce high resolution 64MP photos as and when required. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme’s XT are the only phones rocking a 64MP camera at this point of time – of these, only the latter is available in India for now.

Rest of the specs are in line with the Galaxy A70 which means that the Galaxy A70s comes with a 6.7-inch 1080p+ Super AMOLED display with Infinity-U style notch. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage which is also expandable. The dual SIM phone runs Android 9 Pie-based One UI. The phone further packs a sizeable 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging through USB Type-C.

The Galaxy A70s uses Samsung’s 32MP GD1 sensor on the front, while on the back it has three cameras – a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor (with 120-degree field-of-view) and a 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography.

“The new Galaxy A70s is equipped with a host of path-breaking features, including best-in-segment 64MP camera with Super Steady mode to shoot action videos and Night Mode to capture amazing pictures in extreme low light. It also features the AI based game booster, 4500mAh battery, 25W superfast charging & Samsung Pay to elevate the smartphone experience of young millennials,” Ranjivjit Singh, Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India said in a statement.
