Motorola’s new One Action phone wants to bring GoPro-like video recording smarts to the masses – there are simply no two ways about that. The One Action, launched in Europe on Friday, is like the One Vision – which was recently launched in India – in many ways, but clearly its loyalties lie elsewhere. While the One Vision with its 48MP rear and 25MP front cameras is geared towards still photography, the One Action seems more focused on videography – more precisely, action videography. It’s sort of like the GoPro, only a lot cheaper.

The main USP of the Motorola One Action is its dedicated 16MP ultra-wide video camera with a 177-degree field-of-view. Not only does it use 4-in-1-pixel binning for enhanced light sensitivity, Motorola is also using software to reduce shakiness while you’re shooting, particularly in challenging conditions – Motorola calls it Enhanced Video Stabilization. There’s also a clever workaround that allows the One Action to record in landscape when the phone is held vertically and vice versa – Motorola engineers have physically rotated the sensor to be able to do this.

Rest of the phone is familiar if you’ve heard of a phone called the One Vision, which currently sells in India for Rs 19,999. The One Action has a 6.3-inch 1080p+ LCD display with an unusually tall aspect ratio of 21:9 and punch-hole cut-out. It is powered by an octa-core Exynos 9609 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage which is also expandable. There’s also a main 12MP camera and a 5MP depth camera, in addition to that action camera. On the front, it has a 12MP camera. The dual-SIM phone runs stock Android Pie software with Moto enhancements like Moto Display. The Motorola One Action further packs a 3,500mAh battery.

In terms of design, the Motorola One Action comes with a 4D glass-like back with a conventional fingerprint scanner – the phone will be available in Denim Blue and Pearl White colour options. The phone comes with a mono speaker out at the bottom and USB Type-C for charging and data syncing. There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack on-board the Motorola One Vision.

The Motorola One Action has been launched in Europe at a price of Euros 259 which roughly translates to Rs 20,500. Motorola will launch the Motorola One Action in India on August 23.
