Xiaomi is seemingly kicking-off all things Mi 9 early. A day after confirming the launch date (which is February 20, the same day that Samsung unpacks its Galaxy S10), company senior vice president Wang Xiang has shared the first official renders of the Mi 9 on social media. Showing off the phone’s gradient glass back and triple rear cameras.

The Mi 9 will be Xiaomi’s premium flagship for 2019, its answer to the Samsung Galaxy S10 if you may. But while the Galaxy S10 will witness a global reveal on February 20, Xiaomi is keeping the Mi 9 a China-only affair to begin with. Xiaomi has been shy of bringing its flagship Mi phones to India, so we will have to keep our fingers crossed on this one.

Regardless, the renders shared by the Xiaomi executive fall in line with all the leaks and rumours that we’ve come to gather from the world wide web. The Mi 9 will be made of copious amounts of glass (and metal) and like the Mi 8, the new flagship will be also able to bend light at will courtesy its gradient finish. It will be available in blue at least, but there should be more colour options incoming.

The Mi 9 will further come with three rear cameras, and Xiaomi has already started teasing their capabilities on social media. The Mi 9 triple rear cam setup will reportedly come with a 48MP main camera with Sony IMX586 sensor (the same sensor found inside the Honor View 20), a 12MP secondary sensor and another Time-of-Flight camera for 3D depth mapping. Xiaomi’s teasers suggest, a standard camera, a wide-angle one, and another suited for portrait photography.

The renders also confirm that the Mi 9 will come with USB Type-C port (presumably with improved fast charging) and bottom-firing speaker(s). And the Mi 8 did not have a headphone jack, so that’s that.

Sadly, Xiaomi isn’t showing off the Mi 9’s front just yet. But on the basis of past leaks, the Mi 9 will reportedly come with a 24MP selfie camera embedded into a tear-drop style notch.

The Xiaomi Mi 9, in all probability, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.

Xiaomi will launch its next-generation flagship Mi 9 phone on February 20 and will likely show it off to a wider audience at MWC 2019 in Barcelona where it is also slated to release a 5G-ready version of the Mi Mix 3.
