The Xiaomi Redmi 8A is coming to India on September 25 with a ginormous 5,000mAh battery. Ahead of D-day Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain has revealed another key hardware detail of the Redmi 8A, in addition to revealing the full design of the phone in question. Turns out the Redmi 8A will support fast charging and come with a USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing – the Redmi 8A could be the cheapest phone in India to come with USB Type-C and fast charging.

Xiaomi is known to maintain a consistency in pricing across its entire device portfolio which means that the Redmi 8A is expected to be priced in line with the Redmi 7A. The Redmi 7A starts at Rs 5,999 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, going all the way to Rs 6,199 for the top-end variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. Something similar will be expected from the Redmi 8A as well. Should the Redmi 8A be priced anywhere close to this ballpark, this would make it the first of its kind to come with a 5,000mAh battery, USB Type C and fast charging combo.

Redmi 8A design

Manu Jain has taken to Twitter to reveal full design of the upcoming Redmi 8A. Basis the reveal, it’s confirmed that the Redmi 8A is all set to get an aura design rehash, like the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3. Unlike the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 however, it seems the Redmi 8A will have a textured back to enhance ergonomics – simply, put it doesn’t seem like the Redmi 8A will have a flashy gradient-toting exterior. Xiaomi is calling the design of the Redmi 8A aura wave grip design.

Manu Jain’s fresh reveal doesn’t show off the phone’s front, but Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Redmi 8A will come with a waterdrop-style notch – Xiaomi calls it dot notch – like the Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3. The size is unknown, but according to a recent TENAA listing, the phone is said to come with a 6.2-inch display – the resolution should be HD+ or 720p+.

Redmi 8A confirmed specs

Xiaomi has previously also confirmed that the Redmi 8A will come with a 5,000mAh battery. For some perspective, the Redmi 7A came with a 4,000mAh battery Other hardware details are awaited but going by Xiaomi’s reveal onslaught, we may not have to wait until D-day to know more about the Redmi 8A.
