Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is first Redmi phone to support 18W fast charging

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 may not be a true flagship (rumour has it that Xiaomi’s new Redmi sub-brand is working on one) but its feature-set can give major flagships that cost 2X or 3X more, a run for their money. After revealing that the Redmi Note 7 is almost water-resistant, Xiaomi has now confirmed that the phone also supports 18W fast charging through Qualcomm Quick Charge 4. 

The Redmi Note 7 is, in fact, the first Redmi phone from house Xiaomi to support 18W fast charging. Previous Redmi devices all capped at 10W, so on basis of paper specs, the Redmi Note 7 can be considered a major leap forward. The Mi A2 (India variant) and the Poco F1 are other Xiaomi devices that support 18W fast charging straight off the bat, but they belong to different and more expensive product portfolios. 

Combine that with a sizeable 4,000mAh battery, and the Redmi Note 7 instantly stands out as a value flagship: a device that starts at just around Rs 10,000 and packs an attractive all-glass body with a waterdrop-style notch, a full-HD+ screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, a 48MP rear camera, among other things. 

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is also water-resistant. Sort of. Now, the Redmi Note 7 is technically not a water-resistant device, which means it does not come with any ingress or IP-rating, but Xiaomi has ensured that it is a little more water-resistant than competing products. Company CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that Xiaomi has put in a lot of effort to design watertight seals for all the points considered weak for a smartphone. This means that all the ports and buttons on-board the Redmi Note 7 – SIM card tray, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm jack and the speaker – are protected by watertight seals. These watertight seals, in turn, will ensure your device is protected against accidental spillage and light rain. 

Let’s take a quick look at the phone’s core hardware. The Redmi Note 7 comes with a 6.3-inch 1080p+ display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with up to 6GB RAM and up to 64GB storage, Android Pie-based MIUI 10, and USB Type-C for charging and data syncing. The Redmi Note 7 is also the first phone in its category to sport a whopping 48MP rear camera. There’s also a 5MP secondary camera for depth-sensing. On the front, the Redmi Note 7 comes with a 13MP camera.
