Facebook is shutting down its group stories feature. Facebook will pull the plug on its group stories feature starting September 26. Facebook group stories feature allows group administrators and members to post ephemeral content, including photos and videos. Much like Facebook/Instagram stories and WhatsApp Status, photos and videos posted as group stories on Facebook vanish within 24 hours. The social network has decided to bid farewell to the feature in less than a year since its introduction. To recall, Facebook's group stories feature has been available since December 2018. Facebook will end support for its group stories feature on September 26 at 9:00 am PT (9:30 pm IST) Social media commentator Matt Navarra spotted the change.

Facebook, in a statement provided to CNET, had this to say:

"We're sunsetting group stories because we want to make sure that features in groups enable people to connect in fun and useful ways, and we're always looking at ways to improve the overall experience for communities on Facebook."

While Facebook's reason to pull the plug on group stories sounds somewhat cryptic, it suggests that there were not many users using Facebook's group stories feature in the first place. However, Facebook did not reveal about the number of users using the group stories feature. Facebook's decision to end support for Group Stories update is not completely surprising. Stories have always been known to be more personal. So the chance is not a lot of users were probably using the feature.

What happens to Facebook stories?

Facebook saying goodbye to group stories doesn't mean the end of Facebook Stories feature altogether. Facebook users can still share ephemeral stories through their personal profile as well as a Facebook page. All they need do is upload text, photos or videos as a story on their Facebook profile. In addition, Facebook page administrators can post ephemeral stories through Facebook pages using Facebook Page Manager app for Android and iOS.
