Fortnite Wins Yet Another Laurel; This Time on Google Search

According to Google search trends information, Fortnite topped in the video game category as far as search trends based on categories are concerned. The second, third, fourth, and fifth places with respect to popular searches in the category were bagged by Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 76, Far Cry 5, and God of War.

As 2018 draws to a close, it is only natural to take a look back at the top trends that the year witnessed. This year, there was a new trend created as far as gaming is concerned, it is not PUBG making its debut, but the fact that Fortnite that is touted as an intense competitor to PUBG topped the charts as far as the most searched game of 2018 is concerned as per Google trends. Fortnite piped Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 76 which were behind the title.

According to Google search trends information, Fortnite topped in the video game category as far as search trends based on categories are concerned. The second, third, fourth, and fifth places with respect to popular searches in the category were bagged by Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 76, Far Cry 5, and God of War respectively. Here, it is worth noting that God of War bagged the coveted “Game of the Year” trophy at the recent Game Awards 2018. Even Fortnite, Red Dead Redemption 2 bagged multiple trophies at the awards in various segments.

Fortnite, falls into the survival and strategies domain as far as gameplay segments are concerned. The game competes with another recent release, PUBG (by Tencent Games), that is also taking gamers across countries by storm through its multiple in-game elements such as an island where players are stranded and the showdown between various players. Nonetheless, the above search trends (specific to the US) have accorded numero-uno status to Fortnite.

That’s not all, even in the GIFs category; Fortnite GIF was the most searched followed by Default Dance GIF, Dilly GIF, Orange Justice GIF, and Black Panther GIF. These were the top 5 GIFs searched for in the US on Google Search.

In the generic searches (no category and domain bias) world cup topped the list of searches followed by Hurricane Florence, Mac Miller, Kate Spade, and Anthony Bourdain respectively.
